Pittsfield: Income tax rally slated Monday

Central Habitat for Humanity and Berkshire United Way will host a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Tax Rally during this year's National Day of Service from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at 314 Columbus Ave.

During the rally, community members with a household income of $54,000 or less, who missed filing their tax returns during any of the years between 2013-2015, can stop in and have their back taxes filed for free by IRS-certified VITA volunteers.

Visit https://www.irs.gov/individuals/checklist-for-free-tax-return-preparation for a list of what should be brought to the VITA site.

Attendees will be entered into a door prize drawing for three $25 Big Y gift cards.

The VITA program, which is funded by Berkshire United Way and administered by Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity and Berkshire Community Action Council, helps individuals build financial stability by ensuring those who qualify receive the earned income tax credit.

Filing of 2016 returns will commence Feb. 4.
