Patriots, Bulldogs start quest for crown
Both the Mount Anthony and Burr and Burton girls lacrosse teams held their practices indoors to start respective runs toward a Division I state championship.
MAU is the reigning Division I champions after beating Middlebury 11-6 in the title game, winning the program's second state title last spring and finishing the year at 16-2.
Third-year coach Whitney Brooks said that the numbers are good, with more than 40 players trying out for varsity and junior varsity spots.
All-state first-teamer Emily Altland returns for her senior campaign, along with three second-team all-state players in Brianna Zipprich, Hayley Richmond and goalie Carly Plaisance.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 10-7 campaign in 2016, making it to the quarterfinals of the Division I tournament.
"We have a lot of girls coming back from last year's team," said BBA second-year coach Jennifer Brenner. "I'm looking for our players to come out ready to go and with the mindset to get better each and every day."
Senior Jessie Forstmann returns after being named as a first-team all-state player last season, while junior Shayla Heekin is back after a second-team nod as is senior Hannah Herbert.
