NORTH ADAMS — A pizza delivery man repeatedly stabbed in an apparent robbery is recovering as his alleged assailant remains behind bars on high bail.

As of Sunday, Charles Sauer of North Adams was listed in stable condition at Berkshire Medical Center, according to North Adams police. Sauer was initially listed in critical condition BMC after he was attacked shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Friday. Police and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and found the Dominos employee in his vehicle at 394 Union St. with multiple stab wounds to the chest and abdomen, reported police investigators.

Police say Sauer was able to identify his attacker as Travis Perras from North Adams and robbery of money appears to be the motive.

Perras was tracked down in a residence near the crime scene, arrested and charged with armed assault with intent to murder, armed robbery while masked and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, which authorities have not identified. The suspect is being held in the Berkshire County Jail and House of Corrections on $75,000 cash bail. Massachusetts state police and the Adams police K-9 unit assisted North Adams in the investigation.
