New Ashford approves roads measure, funding bills

NEW ASHFORD — The Select Board and road commissioner now have the authority to close portions of several town roads due to extreme weather conditions.The measure, which lists Ingraham Road, Roys Road, Greylock Road, Old Route 7 and others, was among the 19 articles approved at Tuesday's annual town meeting, according to Select Board Chairman Jason Jayco.

Funding for town services such as building inspector, Board of Health, trench inspector and electrical inspector all met with approval.

For Article 11, voters authorized $2,000 for the purchase of Fire Department supplies, to be bolstered by revenue from fines for false alarms.

The fiscal 2018 budget of $725,222, an increase of $58,379 over the previous year, also passed.

Other spending approved included $15,000 for new Fire Department tanker truck; $64,235 to cover cost overrun for the fiscal 2017 school budget; $2,500 to supplement grant revenue for emergency management; and $3,460 to fund the plumbing and gas inspector and the same amount for the building inspector.
