Letter: Return volleyball to Pittsfield parks

To the editor:

Bravo to Aftershock, the AVA Volleyball Club's U15HP's team, for finishing second in the New England Regional

Volleyball Championship this month.

Once there were volleyball nets in all of Pittsfield parks. The one at Clapp Park was replaced with baseball apparatus. I'd like to see those beams and nets returned, to see the energy and exuberance of this sport played again open to the public. Especially as volleyball is a male/female sport. Everyone can play! All one needs is to bring a volleyball to the park!

In the 1970s, when the summer parks thrived, we had volleyball teams representing every park in the city of Pittsfield. Clapp Park had some of the best players! This is where I learned to enjoy and appreciate this sport with friends in the community during the summer months.

Barbara Arpante,
