Bits and Bites: Lenten soup suppers, farmers market slated

Posted

SOUP AND BREAD SUPPERS

Saint Agnes Catholic Community will provide a Lenten meal of homemade soup and Panera bread each Friday during Lent.

Meals begin this Friday and will continue each Friday until March 23, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., in the Parish Hall at 30 Carson Ave., Dalton.

All are welcome. The Stations of the Cross follow at 7 p.m. in the church.

BERKSHIRE GROWN FARMERS MARKET

Berkshire Grown's last farmers market of the season will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Monument Valley Middle School in Great Barrington.

This festive event features the freshest locally grown and produced foods and gifts, including vegetables, cheeses, meats, breads, preserved foods and grilled sausages. Admission is free and SNAP/EBT and HIP accepted at all markets. Thanks to our supporters at the Berkshire Co-op Market, SNAP dollars will doubled at the remaining market.

Returning customers and first-time market visitors they bring will each receive $10 to spend at the market. These market bucks help support local food and farms by increasing sales and maybe introducing them to new customers.

The markets will feature fun activities for kids, food for lunch and music. Berkshire Grown is one of the 40 nonprofits in the Commonwealth participating in the Healthy Incentives Program (HIP) — an initiative increasing access to healthy, locally grown food. HIP matches SNAP purchases of fruits and vegetables at farmers markets, farm stands, mobile markets, and CSAs — providing SNAP customers with extra dollars to spend every month.
