Eye Center marks 20th anniversary

Posted

ADAMS — The Cataract and Laser Center at 1 Berkshire Square is celebrating its 20th anniversary of continuous operation this month. The firm began operations on July 16, 1997.

The Berkshire Mill Apartments, a large renovated cotton mill from the early 1900's, served purely residential tenants until several entrepreneurial doctors sought a location to build a state of the art ambulatory surgery center. Adams proved to be a favorable location given the practice locations of the founding ophthalmologists

The center continues to serve the practices of Advanced Eye Care, with offices in Bennington and Manchester, Vt. and North Adams, and Berkshire Eye Center, with offices in Pittsfield, Great Barrington, and Valatie, N.Y.

There are currently nine surgeons that staff the center, six of which are among the original founders. The center was incorporated on March 5, 1997. There are presently 22 employees, including three who started when the center opened. In its 20 years, the center has served over 27,000 patients, with over 50,000 surgical and laser procedures performed.
