Berkshire County sports notes, Sept. 26
The Northern Berkshire Youth Hockey League will hold sign-ups for the 2017-18 House and Learn to Play/Skate programs on Monday, Oct. 2, 9 and 16 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Skating Rink in North Adams.
These programs start on Oct. 21 and run through Feb. 24, 2018. The cost is $60 for Learn to Play/Skate, and $225 for the House program. Financial aid is available.

Hoosac Valley bonfire
The Hoosac Valley Student Athletic Council is hosting the first annual Community Bonfire on Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. near the Hoosac Valley JV softball field. The fall sports teams will have booths for activities for all to participate in and to support their programs.
Give Strength, a non-profit organization related to John Crane's Iron Bred Strength program, will also be in attendance to raise money for childhood cancer.
The fire will start around 7:45 p.m. Admission is free, and the event is open to all.

Monroe Dunbar Brook Trail Races
The Western Mass. Athletic Club will host the 27th edition of the Monroe Dunbar Brook Trail Races on Sunday, Oct. 8. The races, which consist of a 10 1/2-mile and 2-mile trail race, will begin at 10 a.m.
The costs are $15 for the longer race, and $10 for the shorter 2-mile race until Oct. 1. After the first, there will be an additional $5 charge for either race. The fee includes a post-race barbecue for runners, guests and volunteers. WMAC members can deduct $5 from the registration costs if they pre-register.
The start and finish lines are located at the Monroe State Forest Picnic Area on River Road at the Florida/Monroe town line.

North Adams Basketball League
The North Adams Basketball League will hold registrations for the upcoming season on Wednesday, Oct. 11 and Thursday, Oct. 12 from 5-8 p.m., and on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 10 a.m. to noon at the North Adams Armory.
There are three divisions for both boys and girls — Instructional (pre-K through second grade co-ed), Whitney Girls Division (third grade through eighth grade) and John Gaudreau Memorial Boys Division (third grade through eighth grade).
The registration fee is $40 for the first child in a family, and $25 for any additional kids for the older leagues, while the instructional league fee is $25.
