Olympic gold medalist Hemery to speak at Williams

Olympic gold medalist and world record-setter David Hemery will speak at Williams College on Tuesday, May 2.

Hemery, a British citizen, walked onto the Boston University track team and ended up an Olympic gold medalist and world record-setter in the 400-meter hurdles in 1968.

Hemery ran for Great Britain in the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City and won the gold medal in the 400 hurdles in a time of 48.12.

His 48.12 stood as the world record for four years, and his time remained the British record until 1990.

Hemery will speak on "The Making of a Champion" at 7:30 p.m. in Bronfman Auditorium.

Home run derbies for the Jimmy Fund

For all high school baseball and softball players who have dreamed of playing at Fenway Park, register for your sectional home run derby for the chance to play at Fenway during John Hancock Fenway Fantasy Day.

This day lets fans of all ages experience playing at Fenway while fundraising for the Jimmy Fund.

All Mass. derbies will be hosted on May 7 from 1-6 p.m. at the following locations: North — Lynnfield High School in Lynnfield; South — Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood; Central — Millbury High School in Millbury. West — Bullens Field in Westfield.

One winner from each location will advance to the New England Home Run Derby Championship during John Hancock Fenway Fantasy Day at Fenway Park on June 3.

Teams are also encouraged to participate in the High School All-Stars program, which gives high school teams the opportunity to fundraise and sponsor a Dana-Farber patient's participation in Fenway Fantasy Day. The top three fundraising teams will take the field at Fenway, as well.

Registration for the home run derby is $10 and will support the Jimmy Fund. To register or learn more, visit:
