Area Notes: Spring Youth Tennis programs at Lee CTA

Lee CTA announces openings in Spring Youth Tennis Programs for ages 5-16 years old.

Registration is now underway for the Lee Community Tennis Association's spring youth programs at two sites: Lee Middle and High School, and the Lenox Community Center courts. The programs at both sites are open to all area children, regardless of residency.

The Lee CTA is a member of the United States Tennis Association, delivering affordable USTA programs for all ages and levels of ability.

Cami Smachetti will be directing the Youth Tennis Introductory Programs, assisted by local high school tennis coaches and players. Shane Sullivan, Pittsfield Boys' Tennis Coach, will be Youth Competitive Director, overseeing USTA Junior Team Tennis, USTA Non-Elimination Tournaments, USTA Youth Progressive Tournaments, and USTA Play Days. Wilson Tan, a PTR certified tennis pro and long-time Lee CTA Youth Tennis Director, will be assisting with USTA Jr. Team Tennis coaching.

The programs are: Munchkin Tennis: This program is for children ages 5-6. It runs in Lee on five Saturdays from April 21-May 19 from 12:30-1:30pm for a fee of $30. It will also run in Lenox on five Sundays from April 22-May 20 from 12:30-1:30pm for a fee of $30.

10 and Under Tennis: This program is for children ages 7-10. It runs in Lee on five Saturdays from April 21-May19 from 12:30-2:00pm for a fee of $45. It will also fun in Lenox on five Sundays from April 22-May 20 from 12:30-2:00pm for a fee of $45.

Middle School / High School Tennis: This program is for ages 11-16, beginners and those returning to the game after a layoff. It runs in Lee on five Saturdays from April 21-May 19 from 12:30-2pm for a fee of $45. The program will also run in Lenox on five Sundays from April 22-May 20 from 12:30-2pm for a fee of $45.

USTA Jr. Team Tennis U10 & U14: This program is for children ages 7-14 years who have played on a travel team or are interested in playing on a travel team. It runs in Lee on five Saturdays from April 21-May 20 from 12:30-2:30pm for a fee of $60. The program will also run in Lenox on five Sundays from April 22-May10 for a fee of $60.

The Lee CTA, a not-for-profit organization, has been delivering affordable tennis programs to area families for the past 38 years. It is one of 350 National Jr. Tennis & Learning (NJTL) Chapters, a national team tennis program for kids. Its mission is to develop the character of young people through tennis, emphasizing the ideals and life of the legendary Arthur Ashe. All the on-court programs offered by the Lee CTA promote this mission and are centered on team play and sportsmanship.

Children are invited to enter the NJTL Foundation Essay Contest, giving them the opportunity to earn recognition, prizes, and the ultimate prize, a free 2-day trip to NYC and the US OPEN!
