Adams: 'Mill Children' exhibit opens for limited time

"The Mill Children" exhibit will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 20, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 21, in the Hoosac Street Gallery located on the ground floor of the repurposed 1889 Berkshire Mill building at 1 Berkshire Square.

All ages are invited to learn the history of the town's family members that walked these floors.

In the late 1890s, the Berkshire Cotton Manufacturing Company was on its way to becoming one of the largest cotton mill operations in the world. Maybe 1,000 child workers were employed in Adams during this period.

The story of these children along with the social and political conditions which brought about their situation is dramatically presented through exhibit.

Volunteers are needed to keep the exhibit open for future weekends. Visit this weekend or call 413-776-7551 to participate.
