$35,000 bail set in child sexual assault, animal cruelty case
PITTSFIELD — A Southfield man accused of sexually assaulting a young girl and cruelty to animals was ordered held on $35,000 bail Thursday.
Rafael Lopez-Espinoza, 41, entered pleas of not guilty before Judge John Agostini to three counts of rape of a child by force, six counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, four counts of intimidation of a witness, two counts of assault and battery and one count of cruelty to animals.
According to the Berkshire District Attorney's office, the alleged incidents occurred in New Marlborough between June 19, 2014, and Dec. 30, 2016.
The investigation was conducted by state police detectives assigned to the District Attorney's Office.
No further information was available in the case.
